Originally formed in 1945 as J.W. Gray & Son, Gray Diving Services Pty Ltd is a marine services company which has maintained its position in the demanding marine and sub-marine environments for over 60 years.
GDS offers underwater engineering and construction solutions including consultancy, design, specialist fabrication, welding and non destructive testing, all utilising state-of-the-art equipment.
In this time of drive towards total quality control and management by both government and private industry it is no longer acceptable for marine contractors to provide personnel whose sole qualification is as a diver.
Commercial diving has changed substantially over the years with the modern day diver requiring an understanding of many disciplines and experience with the wide variety of technical innovations which have now become industry standard.
At Gray Diving we believe our greatest assets are the skills of our people. To this end, we employ divers who are trade qualified on construction and engineering projects and we endeavour to maintain our high standards with ongoing training as new equipment and techniques are developed.
Gray Diving personnel are members of the Welding Technology Institute of Australia and the American Welding Society and we provide on-going skills development for our divers using our in house training facilities which include a wet welding simulator.
Emphasis is placed on multi-skilling with our divers formally certified in several disciplines in addition to their diving accreditation. This enables each member of our team to offer a comprehensive service to our many clients.
Commercial diving attracts a range of entrepreneurial types, mainly from the recreational industry, many of whom do not have the necessary expertise to offer a comprehensive and professional service. Reports of sub-standard workmanship, use of inferior materials and non compliance with specifications are not uncommon, particularly in a business where the finished work often goes unseen and diving companies disappear overnight.
